About Our Family
The Johnson family has been in business for 30 years. Beginning with a transmission shop and eventually going into the used car business, the five members of the family have worked long and hard to provide reliable, high quality transportation to those who need to get to work and take their children to school.
Though very familiar with the auto industry, the Johnson’s have also seen their elderly and physically/mentally challenged relatives experience difficulty when looking for reliable, safe, and compassionate care.
Leif Johnson, president of OAHC and patriarch of the Johnson family, was struck by tragedy in 2008 when his elderly mother was diagnosed with liver cancer. After foregoing treatment, Leif’s mother was given months to live. Unable to find a service that the Johnson’s trusted to monitor and work with Leif’s mother, the family would make a weekly, five and a half hour, trip to see her. It was this experience that compelled Leif, with his family’s support, to start Open Arms Health Care, LLC.
Jeannette Johnson, the matriarch of the family and OAHC’s bookkeeper, has a family member who is stricken with Cerebral Palsy. Since OAHC started, Jeannette’s work has been motivated by a need to provide the kind of service that her nephew could never access.
As for the rest of the family, Leif Johnson Jr., a recent graduate of Princeton University, is vice president of OAHC. Jennelle Johnson, a graduate of Penn State and dance coach for the Pittsburgh Power Arena Football Team and Duquesne University dance teams, is the general manager of OAHC. Monai Johnson, who works in New York City and is a graduate of Fordham University, is a partner and consultant.
